PostSubject: Recording Software   Wed Feb 13, 2013 12:57 am

Anybody have opinions/knowledge to impart on which software is good for recording gameplay? I won't be doing anything with it besides posting it on YouTube just for the heck of it, but I can't have huge FPS drops when I'm playing, as that can be very bad in MoW or Battlefield 2. Thanks!

(I know of Fraps, and I could probably find a place to pirate it, but I know there are more and possibly better programs out there)

Fraps
Playclaw
TGN Hub has a recorder in beta
X-Fire has one too?

Flash Media Encoder + and older (older version was free) VhsScreenCap can also record as well as stream.

I'm still with Fraps however.

Fraps is as easy to configure as getting a crack.
The important things is to get a very huge and powerful Hard Drive, particulary if you record in HD.

Yeah, that's the problem... I downloaded Fraps, recorded a 10 minute video at 50 FPS, half size, and it was at least 5-6 GBs. I suppose I can record, post, then immediately delete it. But Fraps seems to work quite nicely!

Tested a few things for ya.

I recorded 51 seconds of windowed minecraft in 1920*1080 with Fraps. Ended up with a 2.84Gb AVI file ! Quite heavy indeed.
I used FormatFactory to convert it.
It gaves me a 94.2Mb AVI file in approximately 3 minutes. Not as great at the previous video though. Here are some relevant screens.

The original 2.84Gb video (The black parts are because of the windowed mode, it doesn't show the desktop parts)

Though it's still 1080p, the colours are not as "catchy" as in the original video. Need to find out why...
And no, I don't have 13FPS on Minecraft. It's because I was teleporting '-'

if the colours are different in the recording than they are in the game when you play it and you have a ATI card it might be worth checking the catalyst control play back settings. I remembered this from a long time ago but it has different color settings for playing video files than it does for playing video games. So whilst it might look different to you it could be fine for other people watching when it's uploaded to youtube....

I have a GeForce GTX 660 Ti.
I'm sure it comes from the software I used. But that's not important to me, considering I'm not on YouTube.
